Do You Know Your Candidates Position on These Issues?

By February 29, 2012One Comment

With elections approaching many people are concerned about the economy, rising fuel costs, and unemployment. But do you know how your candidate feels on more personal issues?

Contacting your national, state, and local candidates and representatives about issues that are important to you does a lot more then tell you what their position is on the subject. It also tells THEM that their constituents are concerned about these issues. Politicians realize that when one person asks the question, many more are also concerned about the issue but didn’t contact them.

For example, if every individual interested in purchasing real milk were to contact their  state and federal candidates and representatives, it wouldn’t take long before they realized that this is an issue that is important to their constituents.  Make it a point to stay informed and to find out how your candidate feels about issues that are important to you.  Put a reminder on your calendar to contact your representatives periodically (monthly, quarterly, or every six months) about issues that matter to you, and don’t think that because you’ve contacted them about real milk once that they will remember.  Keep contacting them until the issue is resolved.

Here are links to contact the Republican presidential candidates, and a sample letter that I sent to all four Republican presidential candidates.  I also intend to contact my Congressional candidates, Legislative candidates, and candidates for Governor and Lt. Governor to let them know that these issues matter to me.

To contact Mitt Romney:  info@mittromney.com

To contact Rick Santorum:  info@ricksantorum.com

To contact Ron Paul:  http://www.ronpaul2012.com/contact-us/

To contact Newt Gingrich:  http://www.newt.org/contact/

Sample letter:

Dear Candidate ______________;

Would you please provide me with information regarding your position on the following issues:

  1. Food freedom.  Specifically the right to purchase real milk.  Recently the CDC issued a statement that real milk was 150 times more likely to cause illness than pasteurized milk.  However, although data was available through 2008, they chose to ignore data from 2006-2008 because in 2006 there were 135 cases of illness caused by pasteurized milk.  Had they included that data, they would not have been able to make this statement.  Also, the right to purchase non-genetically modified food and to have genetically modified food labeled as such.
  2. Personal liberties / Parental rights.  Specifically my right as a parent to decide whether my child is vaccinated and to choose the best method of medical care rather than being forced by the government to use allopathic treatments.  But equally important is my right as a parent to decide what school my child attends and whether to home school.
  3. The constitution.  Ron Paul has been very vocal about his belief that many of the procedures in the federal government are unconstitutional.  I would like to know your position.
  4. Bringing lean manufacturing to government and the military.  Newt Gingrich has stated frequently that he would bring lean manufacturing to the government and military.  I would like to know your position.
  5. Moral character.  Newt Gingrich has said that questions about character, integrity, and values don’t belong in a presidential debate.  I believe that honesty with your spouse is a good indication of how honest I can expect you to be with me.  I would like to know your position.

These issues are important to me as a resident of ____________________.

I appreciate your time and prompt response.

Sincerely;
