The Christmas Nail

author unknown

It’s Christmas time at our house
and we are putting up the tree.
I wish I could find one simple way
to remember Christ’s gift to me.

Some little sign or symbol,
to show friends stopping by,
the little babe was born one day
but He really came to die.

Some symbol of His nail-pierced hands,
the blood He shed for you and me…
what if I hung a simple nail
on my shining Christmas tree?

A crimson bow tied ’round the nail
as His blood flowed down so free,
to save each person from their sin
and redeem us for all eternity.

I knew it was His love for us
that held Him to that tree,
but when I see this simple nail
I knew He died for Me!

    Hi,
I’m not sure which faith you practice, I belong to Christ’s original church – The Eastern Orthodox Church – but the twelve days of Christmas start on Christmas day – not before – and end on the feast of Theophany – Christ’s baptism. It appears that you have jumped the gun by starting your 12 days too early. Time for fasting is before the feast day, time for celebrating is after the feast day. Just an FYI!

    • Thank you so much for sharing your religious traditions with me! 🙂

In our community, many people will provide acts of service on the days preceding Christmas. We call them The 12 Days of Christmas and use them as an opportunity to serve our neighbors and the Savior leading up to Christmas. It’s also a way to help families (especially children) remember the real purpose of the holiday. 🙂
