Yesterday, I wrote about how I am able to afford eating whole, nutrient dense food and still stay on a budget. Well, today, I want to tell you about how I’m able to SAVE money on my laundry bill! 🙂
About a year ago I replaced my liquid detergent and fabric softener with Soap Nuts. Soap Nuts are a pure, 100% natural chemical-free laundry detergent.
Sometimes called soap berries, wash nuts, or Chinese soap berry, Soap Nuts are actually the dried shells (or husks) from the Soapberry (or Soap Berry Nut). Soap Nuts are actually the fruit harvested from the soap nut tree. The shell of the soap nut contains and releases saponins (soap) when it comes into contact with warm water. The released saponins circulate as a natural surfacant in wash water reducing the surface tension of the water and freeing dirt, grime, and oils from clothes. Very simply, the soap nuts act the same as chemical detergents – but are completely natural! Interestingly however, soap nuts also act as a natural fabric softener, reducing the need for softening additives and dryer sheets. We haven’t used fabric softener since we started using Soap Nuts.
The shells can also be converted very easily to powder and liquid forms. So, Soap Nuts can be used for lots of other household cleaning projects – all totally hypoallergenic and completely chemical-free!
This week only, you can choose from:
- Hand-Sort Select Grade
- Soap Nut Pieces (aka, “On the Half Shell”)
- Finely ground Soap Nut Powder
- In BOTH Regular and Bulk sizes, too!
As always, year-end Soap Nuts are darker in color, but their shelf life is indefinite when stored properly. We just keep ours in our cool storage room until we need them.
To get the sale pricing, no code is required. All of the “Soap Nut Sale” items will have “Special Offer” tags and will be in the “Soap Nuts Sale” category.
This sale ends Tuesday, so don’t delay! 🙂
I am a Soap Nuts affiliate which means if you use one of the links in this post to purchase Soap Nuts, I will receive a small commission.
