Foot zoning is a method of accessing the energy points on the body that correspond to the body’s systems, organs, and parts. It is an energy modality, meaning that it works by utilizing energy pathways that run up and down the body. Some will call these energy pathways “meridians” but they do not flow in the same pattern that the meridians in traditional Chinese medicine flow.
The energy pathways have been accessible for centuries and, although quite possibly utilized by previous societies, were discovered by Dr. William Fitzgerald in the early 1900’s. Dr. Fitzgerald successfully used these energy pathways during minor surgeries to block pain and, in his medical practice, to relieve pain. He discovered that applying pressure on a finger or toe would not only eliminate pain at another location along the corresponding energy pathway, but many times eliminate the cause of the pain.
This occurs because a blockage in an energy pathway will cause disharmony in the body systems – either on a physical level or an emotional, mental, or etheric/spiritual level. What this demonstrates is that our physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual bodies all work together in harmony – one supporting the other. Or simply put, the emotion of Anger takes our bodies out of harmony and when not released will eventually cause disharmony within the mental, physical, and spiritual bodies. Similarly, mental stress can take our body out of harmony and cause disharmony on an emotional, physical, and spiritual level.
Foot zoning helps bring each of those bodies back into their natural balance, back into harmony.
Some have asked if foot zoning is reflexology. While both modalities work to restore balance and do so mainly on the feet, they are very different modalities. Reflexology works with reflex points and Foot Zoning works with energy signals. Foot Zoning works by stimulating energy signals in a specific pattern and specific order. Whereas Reflexology treatments will vary depending on the problems that the client presents, a foot zone session follows the same pattern regardless the problem.
This is because the body is designed to heal itself and by bringing the entire body into balance (not just specific reflex points), the body is then free to begin the healing process. As a result, Foot Zoning is a more in-depth and complete method of correction.
Some have asked if foot zoning is massage. Foot zoning is not massage and does not manipulate the tissues of the body. Rather the practitioner will use her fingers, thumbs, and knuckles to stimulate energy signals on the foot to open the energy pathways of the body.
Opening the energy pathways begins the process that allows the body to make the necessary corrections to bring it into harmony. Some will notice results immediately or within the first few days following a session, others notice a feeling of harmony that results in improvement over a period of time.
Foot zoning is a great way to bring your body into balance and bring harmony to your emotional, mental, physical, and etheric/spiritual bodies. Whether you notice results immediately, within a few days, or over a period of time, everyone agrees, foot zoning just feels good!
