I recently began the search for a good food dehydrator. We had one of the small, round one that you find in the stores, but we weren’t satisfied with how it worked – it wasn’t large enough and the trays needed to be rotated to ensure even drying. So I began researching. Of course I’d heard of the Excalibur and one of my friends has a dehydrator that she purchased from Cabella’s that she really liked. But I wasn’t sure what else was out there and which of those were the best.
Well, after doing some researach I realized that there were really only two choices for a good, high quality dehydrator – Excalibur and Cabella’s but the Cabella’s model was about twice the price of the Excalibur. I continued the research to see if the difference in quality would be worth the price difference and finally decided on the Excalibur for a few reasons:
- I like the thermostat on the Excalibur. It lets me know the perfect temperature for dehydrating herbs, vegetables, or fruit, even raising bread, making yogurt, or home-made jerkey!
- I like the timer on the Excalibur. No more having to get up in the middle of the night (or stay up late) to finish up that last batch.
- I like the quality of the Excalibur. Excalibur sets the industry standard and comes with a 10 year warranty.
- I like that the heating and blowing elements are in the back instead of at the bottom which allows for even drying without rotation.
- I like the price of the Excalibur. At almost half the price of the compitition, I couldn’t see the value in purchasing the more expensive dehydrator.
But what really clinched it for me was reading the reviews and testimonials. There were so many satisfied customers, but one in particular caught my eye. He wrote in that he had the Excalibur, purchased the Cabella’s model, and then went back to the Excalibur because it dried better without needing to rotate the shelves. Better drying, isn’t that why we buy a dehydrator in the first place. 🙂
So my decision was made. We purchased the Excalibur and have been loving it ever since. The 9-tray model is compact enough that it fits on my counter where it’s accessible and easy to use. Drying herbs, fruits, and vegetables has never been easier! In fact, I liked it so much that I joined their Affiliate Program! 🙂
